- Producing and reviewing BNG calculations and ensuring technical accuracy across projects.
- Advising on ecological constraints and opportunities during the planning and development process.
- Undertaking habitat surveys and condition assessments using UKHab methodologies.
- Managing ecological trades, including complex or time-sensitive cases requiring sound professional judgement.
- Using GIS software such as QGIS or ArcGIS to record, analyse and interpret ecological data.
- Providing technical support and quality assurance for project teams and ecological reports.
- Assisting with baseline ecological assessments and habitat management planning.
- Mentoring junior ecologists and supporting their professional development.
- Acting as a trusted technical lead on ecology-related matters within the business.
What We're Looking For
- Extensive experience in ecological consultancy or a comparable senior ecology role.
- Strong working knowledge of the Statutory Biodiversity Metric and Biodiversity Net Gain principles.
- Practical experience carrying out habitat surveys and condition assessments using UKHab.
- An excellent understanding of the planning system and how ecology integrates with planning policy and environmental legislation.
- Experience dealing with ecological trades and making informed technical decisions under pressure.
- Competence using GIS software, including QGIS or ArcGIS, for ecological mapping and data management.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- The confidence to review technical work, maintain quality standards and provide guidance to colleagues.
Why Apply?
- A competitive salary of £50,000–£55,000, depending on experience.
- Private healthcare as part of the benefits package.
- A company car to support your role.
- The opportunity to work on nationally significant Biodiversity Net Gain and habitat bank projects.
